På fredgaskvällen lagar vi en sötpotatisgryta. Det är bara jag och min son. Mitt känsliga mellanbarn som är allt annat än mittemellan. I de här stunderna – när han får fokusera i lugnet, utan andra barn omkring – blommar en annan pojke fram. Noggrann, tankfull, lillgammal.

Jag dricker kvällste vid köksbordet, det smakar kryddor och vanilj.
Jag lämnar hälften av disken till morgondagen.
På lördagen arbetar jag på akuten. Från nio till arton. Jag följer mitt eget system med post-it-lappar på skrivbordet för att minnas vad som är nästa steg för alla patienter. Dricker forest fruits-te, ni vet det där från Lipton, hela läkarexpeditionen doftar sött av bär.

”Jag var doktor. Man gör olika saker. Träffar kanske nån som har slagit sig, nån som har ont i magen.”
Och sedan faller de tunga ögonlocken ihop, hos min spetiga lilla pojke, huvudet tungt mot kudden, och han ler:
”Åh mamma. Jag har också ont i magen. Men jag är inte sjuk. Jag åt bara för mycket mat.”
Sedan snarkar han snart.
På söndagen vill barnen att vi ska spela in en film. De spelar en teater och jag sitter i soffan och dokumenterar med iPadens kamera. Sexåringen är en flicka som har blivit föräldralös. Som man naturligt gör vid plötsliga dödsfall i familjen ger hon sig ut i skogen för att leta efter hundar. Hon hittar två stycken som får följa med henne hem.
Fyraåringen och tvååring är oerhört in character, de kryper på golvet och svarar inget annat än VOFF VOFF i tjugo minuter.
Vid tvåtiden kramar jag mina ungar hejdå och går till akuten. Jag ska jobba till tio. Jag har med mig en bok ifall det blir lugnt, det händer faktiskt vissa gånger. Den här kvällen lyfter jag den inte ens ur väskan. På ett sätt är de här upptagna kvällarna lättare. De värsta kvällarna är de när ingenting händer. Men stjärnorna syns så tydligt på himlen, jag måste ändå stanna upp.
Jag har blivit så svag för natthimlarna.

Att detta bara är en millimeter i tiden, ett nålstick i evigheten, att till och med i mitt egna lilla liv är det här bara några få dagar, i en kort tid av livet.
