En dag blir jag med rum.
I en egen del av huset, långt bort från ljuden av barns lek och gråt och diskmaskiner som ska fyllas och tömmas och klädhögar att sortera och leksaker att trampa på.
Väggarna är mörkt gröna, luften torr och sval. Tystnaden oändlig. Jag har önskat mig en arbetsplats, och ändå har jag inte förstått hur betydelsefull den skulle kännas.
Som att jag först skaffade mig tiden, och sedan skaffade mig rum.
Att tänka tankar färdigt. Få tänka dem så långt att jag kan börja utforska vad som finns där de tar slut, bygga nya saker jag annars inte kunnat föreställa mig.
Här, vid mitt skrivbord, vid mitt fönster, med utsikt över trädgården. Björkar och tallar som rör sig för blåsten. Enstaka kråkor och kajor som sätter sig på grenarna och ser ut på samma saker som jag. Tunga vita drivor, snöflingor som singlar ned.
En behaglig utsikt, på sättet jag behöver, men monoton, på sättet jag verkligen behöver.
I det här rummet, tänker jag, kommer det att hända saker.
Kanske kommer drömmarna jag uppfyller på den här platsen visa sig vara annorlunda än vad jag föreställt mig. Jag kan redan ana det, som en kittlande förväntan – att drömmen om mitt skrivande kanske kommer att ta sig annorlunda uttryck än vad jag en gång trodde.
Att jag kanske redan är i det skrivande jag behöver.
Tiden och rummet, att få tänka tankar färdigt och att få formulera dem på det sätt jag vill. Är inte det själva kärnan i vad jag har längtat efter?
Tänker: här kan jag få bygga ifred. Här kan mina idéer få slå rot. Växa i stillhet, få sticklingar. Här jordar jag mig mot golvet, här får jag en bas.
Tänker: här kommer jag att få se årstider komma och gå, här kan jag göra kväll, göra morgon, göra klart.
Och sedan bara gå upp för trappan igen, tillbaka till världen utanför mina tankar, den jag behöver för att inte fastna i dem för länge, för att hålla dem skarpa, för att de inte ska trassla in sig i varandra.
Leva mina två liv, intill varandra, i samma hus, i samma tid.
